This special concert is held in memory of the ‘cellist and composer Christian Elliott (1984-2025) on his birthday. It includes his moving work for string sextet, Amulet, commissioned by Steven Isserlis on behalf of IMS Prussia Cove, and premiered in Wigmore Hall on 21 July 2012. We conclude the concert with one of Christian’s most beloved pieces of music, the harmonically rich and emotionally-charged masterpiece Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) by Schoenberg, which in common with Amulet explores themes of the protection of the innocent and transformations.
