We close the Season with a programme of clarinet, violin and piano trios, performed by Vermeer favourites Huw Watkins, Katherine ‘Waffy’ Spencer and Sijie Chen. The programme is indeed contrasting, with the humorous character of the Milhaud and the exotic, almost-improvisatory Khachaturian, juxtaposed with the folk-influenced Bartok and characterful storytelling of the Stravinsky. We are as always immensely privileged to explore the works of Huw Watkins MBE with the composer himself at the piano.

Leighton House was the home and studio of the Victorian artist Sir Frederic Leighton, designed by the architect George Aitchison. Lord Leighton was passionate about music, holding an annual house concert

at which musicians of international renown would perform, with the most prominent figures of the day in attendance. Performers included Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim, and audience members included Queen Victoria, John Everett Millais and Robert Browning.
